The City of Central was incorporated on July 11th of 2005 and includes the historic community of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. It became the second largest city in East Baton Rouge Parish and is commonly called Central. The proud citizens of the long time suburb of Baton Rouge often refer to their community as “city living in the country”. The community of Greenwell Springs was first known as a rural resort beginning in the 1850s featuring natural medicinal springs. Central has now grown to over 28,000 residents and home to an award winning public school district. There are also well established private schools and preschools. Central is located about 25 minutes from the heart of Baton Rouge. It has a variety of restaurants, boutiques, banks and professional services. Central has many parks, a public horse arena and splash pad. The community comes together for outdoor movie nights, Christmas parade, farmers market, fairs and festivals. Central is a true family oriented community.
