Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana and for a good reason. Ascension is a gumbo of cultures that South Louisiana is known for. The communities of Gonzales, Donaldsonville, Sorrento, Prairieville, Dutchtown and Saint Amant are included in the 300 square mile area. River Road Plantations, historic golf courses, outdoor adventures, state of the art parks, the expo center, the arts and crafts community, outlet shopping and the abundance of restaurants are some of the reasons over 114,000 residents call Ascension home. The parish is home to two hospitals, a community college, a technical college, 28 public schools and 4 nonpublic schools. With the major throughways of Interstate 10 and Highway 61, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are easy to access. The largest event for the area is the famous Jambalaya Festival that has been held every year since 1967. Exploring other cultural festivals such as the Swamp Pop music festival, the Taste of Ascension food fest and the Ascension Balloon Festival are sure to keep you busy.
